Resign

I don't suppose the two deputies now with convictions to their names will resign. They didn't like the law so they broke it. Well what is the difference to the "real parliamentarians" who are now being forced to stand down in the UK for milking the system.

Anyway they won't go because they would lose a salary they could never hope to achieve elsewhere.

Anyway why did one of the Deputies give up teaching - surely he was paid enough there with a good pension provision - maybe he was being public spirited.

Real Parliamentarians

I don't think Jersey politicians would have too much to worry about with "real parliamentarians" watching them given the current expenses scandal at the House of Commons. Any one can understand why the public are thoroughly sick of some politicians.

It was galling to watch the soon to be former speaker reject calls for a debate on his tenure as speaker. At least he has been forced into resignation today. Strangely enough the only support he has had for his untenable position was from Austin Mitchell who appear to regard it as "public humilition" and a "class issue". Surely it is a question of knowing right from wrong.

Democracy in Action!

Great to see that the Transport Minister, unelected by his own Parish and unelected by the Island, having decreed that Islanders must wear seat belts in the back of cars (not a bad idea), by ministerial powers rather than referring it to the States, is now targeting pensioners in respect of their free bus passes. Taxation by stealth.

I had hoped the new intake in the States would be better than the last lot. Seems that those thoughts were ill founded.

And the unelected bailiff referring to Jersey as a Nation State. Well, if we didn't rely on imported power, foodstuffs, armed forces and fleecing tax payers of foreign lands we might be a nation state, but we are not and never will be. It is a fantasy land.

Airport ATC Jobs

So the Air Traffic Control Assistants and some Met Office workers are being made to reapply for their posts. What an absolute disgraceful state of affairs. These are people who would have been led to believe that they were in secure employment. They no doubt have families and mortgages to pay.

Where are the politicians to protect them. Nowhere to be seen. Will the Jersey born and bred employees be cast aside. Well done to Senator Routier. At least he can be put out of his job in 5 and 1/2 years time.

Let this be a warning for other States controlled departments - your jobs would not appear to be safe.
