Internet and the Accredited Media

Here is an interesting link to an article by Daniel Hannan concerning his speech at the European Parliament.

The gist of the article is that the established press feel threatened by the Internet. It also has links to other articles on the same subject.

A number of local bloggers have expressed concern that the local "accredited" press are trying to stifle bloggers.

Well here at least is a hint that established MEPs are using the internet and it is causing concern to the established press.

Maybe other politicians in Jersey should start some blogs rather than leaving it to a couple of politicians locally.

J24/7, you're totally correct in your assumption that the local MSM in general and the Dead Tree Press in particular see the growth of the local blogosphere as an unwelcome development, and would like to negate it.

I personally believe that asa regular bloggers we have just as much right as the MSM to attend and report things like Scrutiny hearings, and that we should receive press accreditation to do so.

We have an opportunity soon to put this view forcefully to Ben Shenton's Enquiry, and I believe we should. He does at least seem open to persuasion on this point.

Would be delighted to co-operate with you (and our fellow bloggers) on this. Irrespective of our viewpoints, we are a part of the new media, and have a part to play.
