I find myself in support of the letter by Constable Hanning to the JEP of the 8th August 2009.
If the press cannot respect authority or its politicians protect its citizens and respect authority. Our local press cannot even respect the Royal Court fulfilling an ancient Jersey tradition in respect of the Visite Royale.
The Constable of St Saviour is correct in writing to the paper to stand up both for the Parish and for ancient rituals.
Similarly today Channel TV describe the Bailiff as getting in a flap over a flag flying in Clarendon Road. The flag is in the style of the Royal Standard which is only flown at Royal Residences when the Monarch is in residence. Therefore the Bailiff is entitled to investigate and if the property owner had some respect the flag would be removed (unless of course the Monarch is in residence). Some decent respectful reporting could also have been undertaken by Channel TV rather than its flippant "its not really important" attitude that is portrayed by the first line of it's report "Jersey's Bailiff's Department Seem to be in a flap over a flag".
